5.33 Lifestyle Intervention and Counseling

The guidelines also include:

  • Recommending a “comprehensive lifestyle program”
  • Low calorie diet
  • Increased physical activity – aerobic activity for > 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes per day, most days of the week
  • Behavioral counseling
  • Prescribe in person counseling by a trained interventionist
  • Option of an electronically delivered weight loss programs that include feedback personalized feedback
  • Advise a comprehensive (> 1 year) weight loss maintenance program that includes at least monthly contact
  • Monitor weight regularly
