3.01 HeartStrong.com Exercise Program

The HeartStrong.com program consists of education about different the types of exercises, the amount and intensity of these exercises you should do and some education about how to stay physically active even if you have other health problems like heart disease or arthritis.

First, we will talk about the 4 different types of exercises and their benefits. They are:

  • Aerobic exercise or “Cardio”
  • Resistance training a.k.a. “Weight lifting” or “Strength training”
  • Flexibility training or “Stretching”
  • Balance and agility exercises

Then we will define some terminology that you may have heard including:

  • Reps
  • Sets
  • Warm Up
  • Cool Down
  • Calisthenics
  • Circuit Training
  • Interval Training
  • Target Heart Rate
  • Rating of Perceived Exertion
  • Core
  • Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
  • Plateau

Then we will talk about how to get started and how to do the most appropriate exercises at the right intensity to help you get heart healthy including:

  • Monitoring heart rate during exercise
  • Increasing fat burning
  • Burning the right number of calories with exercise
